Where the Story Begins

A beach town with a big-top past.

In 1960, Venice became the winter headquarters of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. When the circus train arrived, performers paraded through the streets to their winter quarters. There they prepared new shows before heading out on tour.

Big-top roots. Big ideas. Up the coast in Sarasota, Ringling College of Art and Design has its own Ringling connection: the school was established in 1931 in collaboration with John Ringling.
